Purpose & Goals The Hip Hop Media Lab is an intermediary that uses culture and a multi media platform (CDs, DVD’s, film, internet, radio, etc) to amplify positive messages and provide a guide for economic development for low income youth. The Hip Hop Media Lab will use a for-profit and non profit structure. The nonprofit (5o1c3) will produce theory and educational curriculum (hip hop history, organizing,) and allow artists a space outside of the market to hone their skills and challenge each other to be innovative. The for – profit (multimedia company) will produce products and position itself in the market place to challenge the current status quo. The 4 goals of the Hip Hop Media Lab are: • Edutainment: for every product we put out to have an educational component. • Hip Hop Co-ops: for low income communities of color to learn and develop cooperative economic models. • Reclaim Culture: for culture to be used in the service of the people who created and not against them. • Democratization of Media: for everyone to have equal access to the media.
